Anglo-Arab singer-songwriter Layla Kaylif pairs poetic romanticism with cinematic pop on “WALKS ON WATER,” a soulful duet featuring South-East London Alt-R&B artist ISRA3L. Inspired by Syrian poet Nizar Qabbani, the track intertwines tender acoustic textures, expressive backing harmonies, and a deeply affecting meditation on love and devotion.
Gentle piano pulses and understated acoustic guitar move with warming, introspective appeal as the smooth lead presence ventures to a smitten proclamation: “Our love walks on water.” ISRA3L’s initial delivery exudes a solemnly melodic character, uplifted into a dual-lead performance with Kaylif as the title-bearing heartrending hits hard. Tender guitar stylings compel around midpoint as elegant, slight lingering of strings sway in the background. The track shows no shortage of atmosphere in its accounts of love and adoration.
The soaring “your love’s the only…” segment is particularly consuming as the final minute enters, culminating in an impactful final refrain of how “our love walks on water.” The soulful performance heightening in the finale is stellar as the piano guides into an absorbing finality. “WALKS ON WATER” is a touching success from the gripping collaboration of Layla Kaylif and ISRA3L. It’s another instance of memorable songwriting from Kaylif, who has caught our ears in the past with the album Call of the Yoni and track “Black Is The Colour.”
